Voluntary termination of pregnancy is legal in Argentina under Law No. 27,610.
Argentina has become a key destination for foreign women seeking legal, safe, and confidential abortions. Since Law 27.610 (2021), the country guarantees access to voluntary termination of pregnancy, regardless of nationality or residency.
More and more Latin American women are traveling to Argentina due to restrictions in their own countries, seeking professional medical care and respect for their decisions. This article is for you, if you are outside of Argentina but want to make your decision freely and with support.

What does the law say?
Abortion for foreign women is covered by Law 27.610 on the Interruption of Pregnancy. This law guarantees that any pregnant person can terminate their pregnancy regardless of gestational age.
The most relevant thing for foreigners is that Law 27.610 makes no distinction based on nationality, immigration status or permanent residence.
In Argentina, the right to health is a constitutional principle, which means that anyone on Argentine soil has the right to access health services, including abortion.
Regarding the gestational limit, up to and including week 14, it is considered a Voluntary Interruption (IVE), meaning that no reasons need to be justified.
From week 15 onwards, abortion is legal under three circumstances: risk to health, risk to life, or pregnancy resulting from rape. In this case, it is called Legal Interruption of Pregnancy (ILE).
It is important to note that in Argentina, in cases of rape, it is not necessary to prove the cause medically or legally. Only a statement from the woman is required.
Cause of health risk in ILE: The right to health is a constitutional principle in Argentina.
The definition of health adopted is that of the World Health Organization, which includes not only physical health, but also mental health and social well-being.
This means that if the pregnancy causes distress, fear, anxiety, or stress, it may be considered a risk to mental health and lead to a legal abortion even after the 14th week.
The legal principle that governs is clear: what is legal in Argentina cannot be penalized in another country, as established by the principle of territoriality of criminal law.
In other words, there is no possibility of being prosecuted in your country for having a legal abortion in Argentina.
If you are considering a voluntary termination of pregnancy (VTP) for foreign women in Argentina, then contact us. We are here to support you through this process and help you make the best decision for you.
Who can access abortion in Argentina if they are foreigners?
Any pregnant person who is in Argentina, even temporarily, can request a legal abortion. You don't need to be a citizen or have permanent residency.
The National Constitution of Argentina is clear in its article 42: it guarantees access to health without discrimination based on nationality.
Therefore, if you travel from countries like Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Peru, Bolivia, or even from Central America, you can access abortion on equal terms with an Argentinian woman.
At our abortion clinic, we specialize in serving international women, offering multilingual support. We provide guidance from your first message, and confidentiality is guaranteed.

BY LAND
Many Chilean patients prefer this method.
Crossing the mountain range via the Los Libertadores International Pass / Cristo Redentor System is a safe and widely used route, with an approximate duration of 7 to 8 hours depending on weather and customs.
✔ By bus from Santiago to Mendoza
Several companies (Cata Internacional, Andemar, Turbus, etc.) operate this route every day.
Buses arrive at the Mendoza Bus Terminal, located 10–15 minutes by taxi from the city center.
✔ By private vehicle
If you are traveling by car:
The road is completely paved and signposted.
In winter or on snowy days, we recommend checking the condition of the pass beforehand.
IMPORTANT: CHECK WEATHER AND PASS CONDITIONS
Before traveling, it is essential to check if the international border crossing is open, especially in autumn and winter, when closures may occur due to snow or adverse weather conditions.
🌦 Important recommendations
✔ Check the weather report for high mountain areas. (https://www.meteochile.gob.cl/PortalDMC-web/index.xhtml)
✔ Confirm the opening hours of the shrine. (Christ the Redeemer is open 24 hours a day from approximately September to May).
✔ Check if it is mandatory to carry snow chains.
✔ Check the necessary documentation to cross the border. (Generally, only a Chilean RUT is required for Chileans)
